Hey!! I'm Latasha (Tasha) Licensed Massage & Bodywork Therapist at Bull City Soles. I have been a practicing massage therapist since 2009, and a barefoot massage therapist for a couple of years now. I am certified in Ashiatsu Barefoot massage, Nurturing the Mother Prenatal massage, Easy Deep tissue, and Traditional Chinese cupping. Since starting at BCS, I've trained in all levels of Ashiatsu, and I know it sounds cliche, but this is the first time in my massage career that I can honestly say, I love what I do!!
Since I was a little girl, I've always wanted to be a Marine Biologist. I have a VHS tape (remember those??!!) from 1994 called "Really Wild Animals: Deep Sea Dive" that was the first time I started to learn about marine life. It is my favorite tape, and lead me on a path to love everything and anything about the ocean. What does that have to do with massage?? Well, that was my first love, but timing and different paths led me to massage instead. Something that came naturally to me. Read more about that in my previous blog. Once I started working as an LMBT, I was massaging between 25-30 people a week. I was over exhausting myself and began to lose the joy in what I was doing. I decided to take a CEU class for prenatal massage, thinking it would help change up the pace. I fell in love with prenatal massage and started working at a Women's Holistic Health Center.
I enjoyed prenatal massage so much that I went on to train as a Postpartum Doula, and Birth Doula. The goal at the time was trying to limit the amount of massaging I was doing weekly. When the holistic center didn't work out, and the 25-30 massages a week started to wear me down, I reached out to Bull City Soles(North Pointe Body Therapies then) to see if they were hiring. When I learned how to use my feet more and hands less, I began to focus back on all the goals I wanted to reach. It is the first time in my life that my work does not feel like work, and I feel rewarded for what I do. I look forward to every day and never have that nagging feeling of "Ughh, I have to go to work tomorrow."
Last year I assisted Julie in the Range Of Motion (ROM) class, and I enjoyed it! I like all variations of Barefoot massage, but ROM is probably my favorite. I love working out, and it is the one that feels the most sports-related to me. I'm also a big advocate of stretching, so it helps to stretch my clients out when they refuse to!! I'm finally at a point in my career, where I can start to focus on other things I want to do. Like taking some scuba lessons and getting certified. That's a six-month goal I have set for myself! I may not have ended up a Marine Biologist, but I can still enjoy the things that I love! When I'm not working, I also taking photography classes, horseback riding, boxing, and I'm trying to teach myself Spanish. Looking forward to planning a trip to Central or South America soon!
